OCTOBER 3, 2007
Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land today announced that the Mobile Branch Office will be in Warren to serve homeless veterans Oct. 17 and 18.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday,
Oct. 18 at the UAW Region 1 office, 27800 George Merrelli Dr. The visit is in conjunction with a "stand-down" event organized by Southeast Michigan Veterans Stand Down Inc.
"America's veterans were there when their country needed them, and so it's an honor to offer assistance now that they need it," Land said. "I commend the stand-down organizers for all they do to help metro-area homeless veterans."
At the stand-down, the mobile office primarily will assist people in obtaining identification cards that are needed to access additional state and federal resources. The office participated in the stand-down in 2006.
Services provided by other agencies at the stand-down include medical care, benefits counseling and how to enroll in housing programs.
The mobile facility is a full-service Secretary of State branch office and is accessible to people with disabilities. It is hauled statewide on a 24-foot trailer that has logged more than 125,000 miles since it first hit the road 10 years ago.
