Secretary Land kicks off branch office visits with Midland

Contact:  Kelly Chesney (517) 373-2520
Agency: Secretary of State

January 23, 2003

Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land today kicked off her campaign pledge to visit all 173 Secretary of State branch offices within a year, beginning with the Midland branch location, 1830 N. Saginaw.

The Secretary met with customers, employees, local officials and media from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., discussing her goals to improve customer service in the branch offices.

“Customers and employees are the best sources of information about what is working well and what improvements are still needed in our branch offices,” Secretary Land said.  “I want citizens to be able to get the services they need as quickly as possible.

"The Midland branch is a medium- to high-volume branch, processing more than 157,000 transactions last year.  It is this dedication and commitment by the staff to serve customers well that is most impressive.”

Land added that the branch also connects to the community through its beautiful photographs of the Dow Gardens and historical log cabin motif.  What makes it really unique is a collection of license plates from the 50 states, which is graciously on loan from local resident Joe Franko.

During her visit, Secretary Land touched on her top priority of improved customer service.  Land hopes to achieve this in part through advancements in technology, extended hours and the use of credit cards.
