Secretary Land visited Warren 12 Mile, Sterling Heights, and Shelby Lakeside branch offices

Contact:  Kelly Chesney (517) 373-2520
Agency: Secretary of State

April 9, 2003

In keeping with her commitment to visit all Secretary of State branch offices within a year, Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land visited the Warren 12 Mile, Sterling Heights, and Shelby Lakeside branch offices today to meet with employees and the public.

"Providing good customer service is one of my top priorities," Secretary Land said. "Customers and employees are the best sources of information about what is working well and what improvements are still needed in our branch offices."

"All of the offices that I have visited have dedicated and talented staff, and a unique set of circumstances. Our primary challenge as a department will be maintaining core services while the state manages through difficult financial times."

During her visit, Secretary Land touched on plans to achieve improved customer service in part through advancements in technology and extended branch offices hours. "Technology is rapidly transforming the way in which citizens can do business in Michigan. Moving more of Department of State’s services online is a cost effective way to deliver services that is also convenient to our customers. I am also exploring extending branch office hours through the use of employee flex time."

Land added that the Warren 12 mile branch office connects to the community through a Macomb Community College display featuring their Continuing Education and Enrichment Program; while the Sterling Heights branch office features displays of artwork from area schools and a unique pine tree collection on display; and the Shelby Lakeside branch office shows its school spirit and support of high school athletics with sports equipment from local area high schools.

Last year, the Warren 12 Mile branch office processed nearly 186,000 transactions, the Sterling Heights branch office processed over 193,000 transactions, while the Shelby Lakeside branch office processed almost 260,000 transactions.

Secretary Land visited the Warren 12 Mile branch office, 13780 E. 12 Mile Rd., from 11:15 a.m. to 12 p.m.; the Sterling Heights branch office, 34208 Van Dyke from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.; and finally the Shelby Lakeside branch office, 13963 Hall Rd., from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
