Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land today announced a key appointment to the department leadership team and the relocation of her Southeast Michigan Executive Office.

Shana Long has been named director of external relations. She has served as director of public affairs since January. Her duties include coordinating department relations with constituent groups, elected officials and other agencies. Long replaces Joe Gammons, who recently resigned to accept an opportunity outside of Michigan.

"We are fortunate to have Shana in this new capacity," Land said. "Her work has been instrumental in advancing my customer-oriented agenda. She distinguished herself during my campaign and will continue being a strong contributor to the department management team. I have every confidence that Shana will excel in her latest challenge."

A Grand Rapids resident, Long served as operations manager for the Terri Lynn Land for Secretary of State campaign since 2001. She also was a regional field director for the Proposal 1 campaign in 2000. Long earned her degree in social relations from Michigan State University’s James Madison College.

Land also announced that the department’s Southeast Michigan Executive Office has been moved from Macomb County to Detroit. It resides with other state offices in the Cadillac Place government office building. The complex, formerly known as the GM building, is at 3046 W. Grand Blvd. The office houses Land’s regional representatives and replaces the executive office in Macomb County established by former Secretary of State Candice Miller.

Joining the Detroit community helps us address the city’s unique needs while still allowing us to serve the entire region.
