Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land announced this morning that problems with the state’s computer system network, which caused Secretary of State branch offices to suspend the processing of transactions yesterday, have been resolved.
"All of the 173 Secretary of State branch offices are operating normally and open for business today," Land said. "Branch office staff will work to accommodate those customers who could not complete their business yesterday and to process the backlog as rapidly as possible."
Under Department of State policy, branch managers will issue a return pass to customers who must return to a branch a second time to complete a transaction. Return passes do not require the customer to take a number and may be used at any branch office.
According to the Michigan Department of Information Technology (DIT), transactions could not be processed due to a problem in the network’s communication systems. Land added that at no time was the data stored in Lansing or in the branch computer system in any danger of being lost or corrupted, and she thanked DIT personnel for their quick response in resolving the problems.
