The 2004 Biennial Precinct Report includes a complete breakdown of the voting equipment currently used across the state, the number of precincts established in each city and township, and the number of registered voters in each city and township. It was compiled by the Department of State Bureau of Elections.

"We’re always working to put useful, accurate information in the public’s hands," said Land, Michigan’s chief election officer and a leading technology advocate. "It’s one more way in which we’re going the extra mile for our customers. I hope that the facts contained in this report will assist researchers, reporters and others interested in Michigan’s election process. I commend our election staff for a thorough and professional job in preparing this document."

Many of the jurisdictions now using punch-card ballots, paper ballots and mechanical voting machines will upgrade to optical-scan ballots prior to the Aug. 3 primary. There currently are 412 jurisdictions in 78 counties with a total of 875 precincts that have expressed an interest in migrating yet this year. The report will be updated as changes occur.

The document is on the department Web site at www.Michigan.gov/sos. Click on the "Elections in Michigan" button on the left side of the home page. Next, go to the "Election Information and Results" link. The report is at the top of the page under the "Elections in Michigan" heading.
