These numbers represent people - family, friends and neighbors. It is the goal of the Department of State along with its organ donation partners to decrease the number of people waiting for a transplant. You can help by adding your name to the Michigan Organ Donor Registry.

  • More than 95,000 people are waiting for an organ transplant.
  • About 50 percent of those waiting are minorities.
  • 18 people die each day waiting for a transplant.
  • Every 12 minutes a new name is added to the national waiting list.
  • Half of those waiting for a kidney transplant are minorities.
