Who will be responsible for overseeing auctions or salvaging vehicles?

The requirements for disposing of abandoned vehicles through a public sale may be found in MCL 257.252g. A law enforcement agency, vehicle custodian or their designees are responsible for disposing of the vehicle, including the public notice, auction and sale.
The responsibility for checking a vehicle's status to see if it was stolen before it is offered for sale remains with law enforcement. However, it is not necessary to perform a vehicle inspection before the sale. You are not required to participate in the auction but may chose to do so. The party conducting the auction has the authority to assign the Bill of Sale (TR-52L ) to the purchaser.
