The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is a unique number assigned to a vehicle. On 1981 and newer cars and light trucks, it is 17-characters. It can be found on the vehicle's title, registration or certificate of insurance. It may also be on other documents such as your purchase records, warranty information or the window sticker. Your insurance company may also have a record of the VIN.
