The Michigan Steps Up Healthy Schools Workgroup will engage 30 state-level school
and community organizations and 10% of school buildings (approximately 400) to
implement a healthy school environment by establishing Coordinated School Health
Teams, completing the Healthy
School Action Tool, and joining Michigan
Team Nutrition and Michigan
Action For Healthy Kids by 2006. The Workgroup will:
Develop and launch the Michigan Surgeon General's School
Recognition Program in collaboration with Michigan Action For Healthy
Kids by September 2005. Develop an online application process by September
2005. Recognize schools at a spring 2006 event.
Monitor improvements in school environments annually related to healthy
eating, physical activity and tobacco free lifestyles through the Healthy
School Action Tool data.
Capture and publish Michigan success stories online by December 26 with
a summary of policy and environmental changes focusing on healthy eating,
physical activity and a tobacco-free lifestyle. Fact sheets are available that outline Michigan's success to date.
Develop and implement an annual survey to record how Michigan Steps Up Workgroup
state-level organizations are championing this campaign.
State level organizations were asked to:
Make a commitment to establish a Coordinated School Health Team (CSHT)
in every Michigan school by 2010.
