  Individual Income Tax
I sent in the payment after filing my income tax return. Why did I receive this bill?
 
Answer:

When you send in a payment for income tax, you should always include your Social Security number in the memo portion of the check, along with the tax year and the fact that the payment is for your income tax. If you have already made the payment and it has cleared your account, send a legible copy of the front and back of your canceled check. Include a copy of your bill with your correspondence.
